Dr Ahmed Hussain is a General Practitioner with broad experience across general practice and emergency medicine, gained in Australia and overseas. He is known for his calm, thorough approach and his interest in the more technical and procedural side of general practice.
Dr Hussain completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Baghdad University in 2009, followed by an internship rotating through emergency medicine, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, and neurosurgery. He attained his Australian Medical Council (AMC) Certificate and AHPRA General Registration in 2023, and holds an Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) from the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, completed in 2021.
Before relocating to Australia, Dr Hussain spent five years practising general practice at a busy clinic overseas, managing medical and surgical presentations across all ages, coordinating care with tertiary hospitals, and developing ongoing patient care plans. Since 2024 he has practised general practice in Hobart.
Dr Hussain also brings several years of emergency medicine experience, including at the Royal Hobart Hospital from 2022 to 2024 and earlier in public hospitals in South Australia. In these roles he led night teams, supervised junior staff, and performed resuscitations, and was regularly involved in teaching junior doctors and medical students, experience that continues to inform his calm and methodical approach to patient care.
He is skilled across a wide range of clinical and procedural work, including wound suturing, abscess drainage, joint dislocation reduction, ingrown toenail resections, ECG interpretation, IV cannulation, immunisation, cervical screening, and iron infusions, as well as advanced emergency skills such as airway management, central line insertion, lumbar puncture, and burns management.
Dr Hussain is committed to continuous learning and expanding his clinical offering. He is currently undertaking a Master of Science in Dermatology, commenced in 2025, and completed an aesthetic injections course in 2026, gaining skills in Botox, dermal fillers, and skin rejuvenation. He is also an Approved Prescriber for medicinal cannabis, providing patients with access to this treatment pathway where clinically appropriate.
He values thorough, patient-centred care and is building his practice around the same commitment to unhurried, relationship-based medicine shared across the Treasury Medical team.
